Author bio

C L Stone writes stories for readers who like protective groups, secret missions, and heroines trying to figure out what safety even looks like. Her books move between young adult suspense, new adult romance, and fantasy, but they usually share the same heartbeat, damaged people finding each other, building trust slowly, and making a family where one did not exist before.

She once lived in Charleston, South Carolina, and that setting runs through a lot of her work. The city and the wider Lowcountry feel around it show up especially strongly in the Academy books. She now describes herself as living around Cajun country, which suits the regional flavor and slightly offbeat humor in her author updates.

Her path into writing started early and in a very human way. Stone has said she began by writing poetry at sixteen to impress a boy she liked.

That plan did not work.

The writing did.

She moved from poetry to novels almost right away and wrote her first novel in about three weeks. In interviews, she has described writing as an obsessive process, one that can take over her attention when a story clicks. She has also said that, on a strong day, she can draft thousands of words at home before most people have settled into their routine.

Most readers meet her through Introductions, the opening book in the long-running Academy and Ghost Bird world. That series follows Sang Sorenson as she falls in with Kota, Victor, Silas, Nathan, Gabriel, Luke, and North, a tightly bound group of boys connected to the mysterious Academy. Readers tend to come for the secret society angle and stay for the group dynamic, the protectiveness, the school suspense, and the slow way trust gets built.

Stone kept expanding that world. Thief opens the grittier Scarab Beetle branch with Kayli Winchester, a survivor who fits a rougher corner of the Academy universe. The Meeting Sang books, including Kota and Victor, rewind the beginning and let the boys tell their side of it. Outside the Academy, she has also written Favored, an Asian-based court fantasy with ghosts, dragons, and deadly competition, Melody / Spice God, which mixes a fresh-start story with strange, memory-stirring food, and the Charleston-set suspense novels Evelyn and Celeste.

Certain ideas show up again and again in her fiction. She likes hidden systems and secret loyalties. She likes characters bruised by family trouble, grief, money problems, or control, and who have to learn that help can be real. She also likes large casts, overlapping viewpoints, and romances that stretch out instead of resolving neatly in one book. Readers who connect with Stone often talk about the awkward sweetness, the cliffhangers, the loyalty, and the way even big plots stay tied to small emotional details. A meal, a sleepover, a haircut, a ride home, those moments matter in her books just as much as the danger.

Stone publishes independently and has built a catalog that branches in several directions while still feeling recognizably hers. Her official author blurbs describe suspenseful sagas, bits of fantasy, a few romantic moments, and sometimes coffee and pancakes. That still feels like a good map for the work: high emotion, loyal teams, strange secrets, and characters who keep choosing one another when walking away would be easier.
