Author bio

Paige Toon grew up between Australia, the United States and England, following her dad’s career as a professional racing driver. Moving so often meant new schools, new friends and new landscapes, and that restless, in‑between feeling shows up in many of her stories.

As a teenager she attended Mount Barker High School in Adelaide and later Altwood School in Maidenhead, before studying philosophy at the University of Greenwich. After graduating she drifted toward magazines, first on teen and film titles and eventually into women’s media.

For eight years she worked behind the scenes at Heat magazine as a reviews editor, spending her days talking about books, films and celebrities. It was busy, deadline‑driven work, but it also gave her a front‑row seat to pop culture, fame and the way people talk about it.

Around this time she started writing fiction of her own. Her debut novel, Lucy in the Sky, came out in 2007 and introduced readers to what would become her trademark mix of sun‑drenched settings, complicated relationships and big, heart‑led decisions. Follow‑ups like Chasing Daisy and Pictures of Lily cemented her place in contemporary romantic fiction.

Toon’s early books also sparked one of her most beloved story threads: the rise and fall—and slow growing up—of rock star Johnny Jefferson. The adult novels Johnny Be Good and Baby Be Mine, plus the novella Johnny's Girl, explore his chaotic relationship with personal assistant Meg Stiles. Later, Toon returned to that world from a younger angle with the Jessie Jefferson novels—The Accidental Life of Jessie Jefferson, I Knew You Were Trouble and All About the Hype—following Johnny’s newly discovered teenage daughter as she learns to live in the spotlight.

Alongside the rock‑and‑roll drama sit sweeping standalone romances such as One Perfect Summer, The Longest Holiday, Thirteen Weddings and The Sun in Her Eyes. These books often follow characters over many years and across continents, weaving together friendships, first loves and the question of whether you can ever really leave your past behind.

Her later novels lean even further into emotionally layered love stories. The One We Fell in Love With explores the bonds between identical triplet sisters; The Last Piece of My Heart blends grief and new beginnings on the Cornish coast; Five Years From Now and If You Could Go Anywhere play with fate, timing and the pull of home. More recent titles, including Someone I Used To Know, Only Love Can Hurt Like This, Seven Summers and What If I Never Get Over You, have introduced her to a wide new audience of readers in the US.

Across all of these books, certain themes recur: second chances, found family, the tension between safety and risk, and the way a single decision can echo for years. Her characters tend to be flawed but hopeful, caught between places or people, and often living in bright, evocative locations from London and Cornwall to Italy, Australia and the American Midwest.

Toon left her magazine job when she became a mother and now writes full time. She lives in Cambridge with her husband, Greg, and their two children, Indy and Idha, and still dips back into earlier story worlds through novellas and short‑story collections. For many readers, picking up a new Paige Toon novel feels a bit like catching up with old friends who have moved somewhere sunny and slightly out of reach.
