Author bio

Carl Weber is a true titan in the world of modern fiction. While many people know him as a New York Times bestselling author, he is much more than just a writer. He is a publisher, a producer, and a businessman who built an empire by listening to what readers actually wanted.

Born and raised in Jamaica, Queens, Weber didn't start his career in the arts. He took a very practical path at first. He earned a Bachelor of Science from Virginia State University and later completed an MBA at the University of Virginia. For a while, he worked in the corporate sector as a Certified Public Accountant.

However, his entrepreneurial spirit eventually led him away from spreadsheets and toward books.

Before he ever wrote a novel, Weber opened a chain of bookstores called Urban Knowledge. This experience was crucial to his future success. Working in the bookstores gave him a front-row seat to the publishing industry. He saw firsthand which books flew off the shelves and which ones collected dust. More importantly, he noticed a gap in the market. His customers were looking for relatable, dramatic stories about African American life, but there just weren't enough titles to meet the demand.

Weber decided to fill that gap himself.

He burst onto the scene in 2000 with his debut novel, Lookin' for Luv. It was an instant hit. Readers fell in love with his unique voice. He didn't use flowery, academic language. Instead, he wrote the way people actually spoke. His stories were fast-paced, full of twists, and packed with the kind of drama that keeps you up late turning pages.

Since then, he has written dozens of novels, but he is perhaps most famous for The Family Business. This gripping crime saga introduces the world to the Duncan family. By day, the Duncans are upstanding citizens running a prestigious exotic car dealership. By night, they control a criminal empire. The series combines the high stakes of a thriller with complex family dynamics. It was so popular that it was adapted into a hit television series on BET, bringing the Duncans into living rooms across the country.

Weber’s storytelling range is impressive. He doesn't stick to just one genre.

In his popular Church series, he pulls back the curtain on a prominent congregation in Queens. These books explore the private scandals and political maneuvering that happen behind the pulpit, mixing humor with shocking revelations.

Then there is the Big Girls Book Club series. These novels strike a different chord, celebrating plus-size women as they navigate life and look for love. It is a series that champions body positivity and friendship, resonating with a wide audience who wanted to see themselves represented as the heroines of their own love stories.

Beyond his own writing, Weber has changed the industry through his company, Urban Books. It is the largest African American–owned publishing company in the world. Through this platform, he has launched the careers of many other writers, earning him the nickname the "O. Diddy of the publishing world."

Today, Weber continues to expand his reach. He has moved heavily into film and television production, often writing the screenplays for his own adaptations, such as The Man in 3B and The Choir Director. Whether on the page or on the screen, Carl Weber knows exactly how to tell a story that people can't wait to finish.
