Author bio

Adam Mitzner grew up in East Brunswick, New Jersey, about an hour from New York City. He studied politics at Brandeis University, earning both a bachelor's and a master's degree, then went straight to the University of Virginia School of Law.

Law came first. After law school, Mitzner joined the litigation department of a large New York City firm and built a career handling disputes. He has practiced for more than three decades, and his work has included complex litigation as well as employment matters.

Still, he had long wanted to write, even though he had never taken a creative-writing class.

Years after graduating, Mitzner showed an early draft to a friend, whose brother worked as a cookbook agent. That led him to private editor Ed Stackler, who helped him develop his work and later connected him with literary agent Scott Miller. Mitzner has described that editorial partnership as the practical writing education he had missed.

The route to publication was not quick. His first completed novel did not sell, and a later political thriller about a Supreme Court nomination was set aside after his agent urged him to write closer to his own experience. Mitzner returned to New York legal drama and, after another long stretch at the keyboard, published A Conflict of Interest in 2011.

That debut introduces Alex Miller, a young defense lawyer whose new client brings old family secrets into view. A Case of Redemption follows damaged attorney Dan Sorenson as he takes on the murder defense of a rapper, while Losing Faith turns a powerful law-firm chairman's past relationship with a judge into leverage for blackmail.

The law is never just office furniture in these books.

Mitzner also writes suspense beyond the courtroom. In The Girl From Home, a fallen Wall Street star returns to his hometown and faces the person he once watched from afar. A Matter of Will puts a struggling broker inside a seductive world of money and danger. The Perfect Marriage and Love Betrayal Murder focus on marriages, affairs, ambition, and the ways private decisions can turn into criminal ones.

His Broden Legal novels, beginning with Dead Certain, bring together Manhattan investigations, family trouble, and characters whose personal lives refuse to stay separate from the case at hand. The books tend to pair professional pressure with close relationships, especially marriages, siblings, old friendships, and parents trying to protect their children.

Mitzner continues to practice law while writing fiction. He lives in New York with his wife, four children, and a dog, and his legal work remains a useful grounding detail in stories where a case can unsettle an entire life.
