Author bio
Tom Fletcher is a household name in the United Kingdom, but his career path has been anything but ordinary. To some, he is a pop icon who dominated the music charts. To others, he is the friendly storyteller who makes bedtime reading an adventure. Today, he stands as one of the most beloved and prolific children’s authors in the country, celebrated for his warm imagination and his ability to speak directly to young readers.
Born in Harrow, London, Fletcher was drawn to the creative arts from a very young age. He attended the prestigious Sylvia Young Theatre School, a place that helped sharpen his natural talents for performance and writing.
It wasn't long before he found massive success in the music industry. As a founding member of the band McFly, he toured the world as a lead vocalist and guitarist. More importantly for his future career, he was the band’s primary songwriter. He penned numerous number-one hits, proving early on that he had a knack for catchy, meaningful storytelling.
It turns out that writing a three-minute pop song and writing a children’s book aren't so different. Both require rhythm, emotion, and a good hook.
Fletcher’s transition from stage to page began with a shared joke and a love for prehistoric creatures. Teaming up with his bandmate and close friend Dougie Poynter, he co-authored The Dinosaur that Pooped series. These picture books were an instant hit. They combined catchy rhymes with the kind of silly, chaotic humor that children absolutely love. The series proved that Fletcher wasn't just a celebrity with a book deal; he was a writer who understood what makes kids laugh.
However, his solo writing career is what truly established him as a major voice in fiction.
His debut middle-grade novel, The Christmasaurus, smashed sales records and captured hearts everywhere. The story follows a boy named William Trundle and a dinosaur who loves Christmas just as much as he does. It is a book filled with magic, but it is grounded in real emotion. Critics and parents alike praised the story for its beautiful themes of friendship, family, and the importance of accepting yourself for who you are.
Fletcher didn't stop there. He has a unique talent for engaging younger children who might usually find reading difficult. His Who's In Your Book? series is a perfect example of this.
Titles like There's a Monster in Your Book turn the physical act of reading into a game. He asks the reader to tilt, shake, and blow on the pages to help the characters. It is an interactive experience that empowers kids and makes books feel like toys.
For older readers, he explores darker and more complex themes. Alongside his wife, Giovanna Fletcher, he writes the Eve of Man trilogy. This young adult series presents a dystopian future and shows a different, more serious side of his writing abilities.
Despite his busy schedule of writing, recording, and touring, Fletcher remains a family man at heart.
When he isn't dreaming up new worlds or performing on stage, he is usually found at home. He spends his downtime with his wife and their children, who are often the very first audience for his stories. Whether through a song or a chapter book, Tom Fletcher has spent his life proving that magic is real if you just know where to look for it.
