Author bio
Catharina Maura is a Dutch romance author of Caribbean Indian descent who went from crunching numbers to writing some of the most addictive, high-angst love stories in contemporary romance.
She was born and raised in the Netherlands in a family with roots in Suriname and India, and she has spoken about growing up as part of an immigrant community that valued stability, hard work and education. Books were her escape, and by the time she was a child she was already telling people she wanted to grow up to be an author.
Like many people from families that sacrificed a lot to start over in a new country, she chose a sensible path first. Maura studied business and built a career in accounting and consulting, learning to live inside spreadsheets and reports while secretly drafting scenes and characters whenever she could.
Writing stayed a private habit until the pandemic disrupted the rhythm of her life. With the world on pause and her husband urging her to do something that genuinely made her happy, she finally decided to take a risk on the dream she had been shelving for years. The result was Stolen Moments, a small-town, enemies-to-lovers romance she released in 2020. Readers found it quickly, and the trilogy that followed turned a side project into a full-time career.
From there, Maura built out a connected universe of contemporary romances. The Off-Limits series leans into forbidden setups like brother’s best friend, doctor and patient, and professor and student. The Stolen Moments trilogy follows one couple from their teenage years into adulthood, through heartbreak and second chances. The Serendipity duet and Forever After All play with marriage-of-convenience and corporate power struggles, while The Tie That Binds introduces readers to Alyssa and Daniel’s age-gap office marriage.
Her best-known work is The Windsors, a series about six billionaire siblings and the formidable grandmother who arranges their marriages. Those books are packed with big feelings, messy families, public scandals and the kind of grand romantic gestures that feel right at home in a dynasty romance.
Across all of these stories, certain threads repeat. Maura writes about duty and desire colliding, about people who work hard, carry old wounds and still dare to want more than a safe, sensible life. Her heroes and heroines fight, break and grow before they get their happily ever after, and she does not shy away from grief, trauma or the hard parts of forgiveness.
More recently she has stepped into romantasy, publishing A Curse of Shadows and Ice and planning A Curse of Magic and Sin, while using the name C. A. Maura for her fantasy and paranormal projects. The magic and worldbuilding are new, but the emotional core is the same, with tortured rulers, dangerous bargains and fiercely loyal heroines.
Maura now lives in Hong Kong with her husband and a collection of houseplants that, by her own admission, all have names. When she is not drafting at her desk, she is usually traveling, daydreaming future stories, or chatting with readers online, still a little stunned that the books she once wrote in secret are now being devoured all over the world.
