Author bio

Beth Bolden writes contemporary romance with competition built right into the story. A lot of her characters are athletes, cooks, or performers, people whose jobs already come with pressure, discipline, ego, and the constant risk of falling apart in public.

She spent much of her life in Oregon and has described herself as a lifelong Oregonian.

More recently, she moved to North Carolina with her husband and their kitten, Earl Grey.

Bolden has been writing since she learned the alphabet. Her first not-quite-bestselling effort had the unforgettable title Big Bear with Sparkly Earrings.

The bigger turning point came later. After college, she has said she spent so much time writing literary analysis that she started to think fiction might simply not be for her. Fanfiction changed that. It gave her practice, a writing community, and the confidence to start building stories of her own.

That path led to The Lucky Charm, an early success that introduced the Portland Pioneers and helped launch her career as a published romance writer. From there, she kept returning to the things she clearly loves most: ambition, chemistry, banter, and characters who are a little too good at pretending they do not want each other.

Her catalog grew fast, and so did its range. Readers who come to Bolden for sports romance often start with books like The Rivalry, Playing Dirty, Melting the Ice, or Perfect Storm, where football and hockey careers are tied to identity, public image, and the messiness of falling in love with the wrong person at exactly the wrong time. Readers who want food, work tension, and found-family warmth usually head for Bite Me, Catch Me, or Drive Me Crazy.

She also made a clear move into queer romance. Bolden has written that working on The Rainbow Clause convinced her she wanted to write gay romance full-time, and that decision helped shape much of the work that followed. Across her books, you see the same favorite ingredients come back again and again: fake dating, rivals, roommates, sexual discovery, second chances, and hardheaded people who fall much deeper than they planned.

And she does not stay in one lane.

She can write rock-band drama in Terrible Things, small-town sweetness in Sweet as Pie, and full-on fantasy adventure in Yours, Forever After without losing the emotional core that makes a Beth Bolden book feel like a Beth Bolden book. Even when the setting changes, she stays interested in what happens when driven people stop managing their image long enough to tell the truth.

These days she writes from North Carolina, still carrying some Portland weird with her. The result is a big, connected bibliography full of series, crossovers, strong romantic payoffs, and characters who work hard, want hard, and eventually figure out how to love without hedging.
