Author bio

A.E. Rayne is a New Zealand fantasy author who introduces herself to readers as Amy. She was born in New Zealand and has spent most of her life in Auckland, with a long stretch in England, where her three children were born.

Her road to writing was not a neat straight line. As a child she dreamed of being a writer, and by about ten she was already imagining TV shows and movies. She was drawn to invented worlds early, especially when real-life school assignments asked for bus journeys and autumn leaves instead of battles, secrets, and danger.

Rayne studied communication with a focus on television, then trained and worked as a graphic designer. She and her husband were full-time designers for years, and that background later folded into her publishing life. She has said that designing her own covers became one of the fun, tricky parts of the job.

Then she kept going.

The book that became Winter's Fury lived for years as a stack of false starts. In 2015, after reading about James Patterson writing in the early morning before work, she tried again. She gave the new first chapter to her husband, asked for a blunt verdict, and got enough encouragement to continue. Winter's Fury arrived in 2017 and opened The Furyck Saga.

Her work leans hard into the things she loves: history, cold weather, Viking-flavored culture, family feuds, warring kingdoms, and characters who make dangerous choices under pressure. The Furyck books follow Jael Furyck, Eadmund Skalleson, dreamers, kings, witches, warriors, and old powers that refuse to stay quiet. Readers who enjoy big casts and shifting loyalties usually have plenty to follow.

The Burning Sea, Night of the Shadow Moon, The Raven's Warning, and Vale of the Gods widened that first saga with sea battles, dark magic, rival kingdoms, and prophecy. Later, Eye of the Wolf began The Lords of Alekka, a connected series centered on Reinar Vilander, Alys de Sant, and a kingdom where forts, gods, and hidden gifts all matter. Wrath of the Sun closes that arc with the lords and gods forced into the open.

Winter helps.

Rayne still lives in Auckland with her husband, three children, and dogs. When she is not drafting, she is often editing, handling publishing work, thinking about design, or reading the kind of historical and fantasy fiction that first pulled her toward cold seas, old grudges, and stories with a lot of moving parts.
