Series background & context
The Demon Accords is John Conroe’s big urban fantasy playground. It starts with God Touched, where Chris Gordon is a rookie New York cop with a very unusual second job: he can banish demons. That gift has kept him alive, mostly, but it also drops him into a hidden world that is far larger and more political than he expects.
Then he meets Tatiana Demidova.
Tanya is a natural-born vampire, a rarity even among the powerful supernatural families who think they understand their own rules. Chris’s rescue of her from a demonic attack pulls him into vampire society, werewolf packs, secret government projects, old supernatural treaties, and the kind of enemies who do not stay neatly in one category.
The early books lean into Chris and Tanya as the core couple. Their relationship sits beside the action, not off to the side. Chris is protective, funny, dangerous, and often overwhelmed by how fast his life changes. Tanya is just as formidable in her own way, with family power, business power, vampire power, and a very practical sense of what it takes to survive.
As the series grows, the point of view widens. Declan O’Carroll enters as a young witch with enormous potential, and books such as Executable, College Arcane, and God Hammer shift part of the focus toward magic, training, and the strange pressure of being a teenager who can change the balance of power. Characters like Stacia, Caeco, Lydia, Levi, Katrina, and others get room to matter too.
That is one of the series’ main pleasures: the team keeps getting larger.
The tone is fast and informal, with a lot of combat, jokes, supernatural hierarchy, and escalating stakes. One book might center on a rogue werewolf case in Maine, while another jumps to Fairie politics, alien invaders, Hell royalty, or a world-level threat. The connecting thread is the Accords universe itself, a place where Heaven, Hell, vampires, werewolves, witches, governments, corporations, and old grudges keep colliding.
For most readers, publication order is the cleanest path. Start with God Touched, stay with Chris and Tanya through the early arc, and let the larger cast arrive when the books are ready for them.
