Author bio
Clarissa Wild grew up in the Netherlands and has said she started writing almost as soon as she could hold a pen. When she was six, she made a tiny booklet out of paper and glue. That early habit of building stories never really left.
Writing was the plan for a long time.
In interviews, Wild has talked about spending years filling her head with elaborate worlds before she felt experienced enough to put them properly on the page. Even in high school, she told people she wanted to become an author. It sounds a little stubborn, and that is probably part of the point. She kept going until the thing she imagined for herself became real.
She began publishing in 2013, and readers quickly got a sense of her lane. Wild writes both dark romance and contemporary romance, but even the sweeter books usually carry a little bruise. Her stories are full of dangerous men, feisty women, power struggles, bad choices, and characters who keep discovering that want and fear can sit very close together.
She likes messy people.
If you want the darker side of her work, Mr. X, A Debt Owed, Caged, The Marriage Debt, and Sick Boys are good examples of what she does best. Some lean into criminal empires or mafia families. Some push into captivity, revenge, or secret societies. What connects them is pace, pressure, and a willingness to let romance get uncomfortable before it gets tender.
Her contemporary books show a different angle without feeling like they came from a different writer. Series like Blissful, The Billionaire's Bet, and Enflamed are steamier and often less violent, but they still revolve around people with secrets, history, and plenty to untangle. She tends to write couples who are drawn together fast and then have to figure out what survives once the heat burns off.
Wild has also been open about why dark romance keeps pulling her back. She has said she loves the genre because the bad boys are not simply bad for the sake of it. She is interested in the darker side of people, in what makes them tick, and in the blurry line between what looks monstrous and what turns out to be wounded, obsessive, or misunderstood. That curiosity shows up all through her catalog.
Her process sounds more structured than chaotic. In one interview, she said she usually thinks about a book for months before she writes it, then builds an outline before drafting. That makes sense when you look at how many of her stories drop readers straight into high tension without much warm-up. The emotions may be wild, but the setup is usually deliberate.
She has also shared a few personal details that make the picture feel more human. Wild is a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author with ASD. She was born and raised in the Netherlands, and she has written about loving movies, video games, reading, and cooking. On her site, she also mentions her husband, their son, two dogs, and a house that includes cats too.
That mix feels about right for her books.
There is a domestic, grounded side to the person, and then there is the writer who keeps tossing readers into cages, compounds, mansions, and elite campuses filled with trouble. If you like romance that runs hot, dark, and fast, Clarissa Wild has built a big shelf for it.
