Author bio
Cheryl Bradshaw was born in Covina, California, and grew up in Tehachapi. Long before she was publishing thrillers and ghost stories, she was already drawn to storytelling, and that early pull never really left.
Mystery seems to have been the lane she kept coming back to. As a teenager she wrote short pieces for school, read widely, and started paying attention to how suspense works, not just who did it, but how a writer keeps the pressure on from scene to scene.
Her path to publishing was not especially straight. She studied English in Utah, earned Montessori credentials, spent time working in education, and also held a real estate license. Those earlier jobs gave her a feel for ordinary lives under strain, which fits neatly with the kinds of people who turn up in her books.
Bradshaw did not rush into print.
She wrote her first novel in 2009, and Black Diamond Death arrived in 2011. That book introduced private investigator Sloane Monroe, a sharp, restless lead with a lot of personal history and a habit of stepping straight into trouble. Readers who like fast-moving cases, clean prose, and heroines who keep pushing even when things get messy usually find plenty to enjoy there.
The Sloane books helped put her on the map. Stranger in Town later became a Shamus Award finalist, and I Have a Secret picked up the eFestival of Words award for best thriller. From there Bradshaw kept building outward, not by sticking to one narrow lane, but by writing across several connected ones.
That range is a big part of what makes her bibliography interesting. If you start with Little Girl Lost, you get a more emotional small-town mystery built around Georgiana Germaine. If you pick up Grayson Manor Haunting, you get paranormal suspense with family secrets and old houses that do not want to stay quiet. And if you try The Silent Boy, written with Janet Fix, you get a brisk spinoff that leans into danger, friendship, and momentum.
She likes series, and it shows.
Bradshaw has also published shorter mystery pieces, stand-alone suspense, romance, and poetry. Books like Love Notes and Love in Bloom show a quieter, more reflective side of her writing, while novels such as Roadkill and Eye for Revenge keep the tension high and the stakes personal.
These days she lives in North Texas. When she is not writing, she has said she enjoys travel, the outdoors, high tea, and time with her grandkids. That mix feels about right for her work too, grounded, curious, and always ready to wander into one more dark little secret.
