Series background & context
The Afterlife Saga is the backbone of Stephanie Hudson's universe, starting with a terrified young woman arriving in a frozen town and a nightclub that should not exist there. Keira just wants a quiet life in Evergreen Falls, far away from the nightmares and trauma that drove her out of England. Instead she ends up working nights at Afterlife, a gothic club where time feels wrong, shadows watch from the balconies and the VIP lounge belongs to a man no one dare cross.
That man is Dominic Draven, the King of all supernatural life. To the outside world he looks like a brooding nightclub owner with too much money and a ruthless streak. To the beings who answer to him he is something closer to a legend, an immortal caught between Heaven and Hell with a prophecy hanging over his head. From the moment he sees Keira, the girl who has been haunting his dreams, his careful control starts to slip.
Across the early books the series stays anchored in Evergreen Falls and the club itself. Keira learns the rules of working under Draven's eye, makes new friends, and slowly discovers that the monsters in her nightmares are real. Vampires, demons, angels and worse move through the VIP room, and Keira is the only human who can stand at the centre of it without breaking. Her past and Draven's destiny are tightly bound, even before she learns words like Electus and Chosen One.
As the story expands, so does the scale. Each new instalment pushes Keira further from the safety of the mortal world. Time travel, ancient kingdoms, Persian deserts and the halls of Heaven and Hell themselves all come into play. The vampire king Lucius steps onto the board, bringing his own dangerous charm, while the King of Kings, Arsaces, drags Keira into a prophecy that could end entire worlds. What begins as a workplace romance inside a nightclub grows into a war for reality.
Through it all, the emotional core stays focused on Keira and Draven. Their relationship is slow burn, messy and often painful, built on shattered trust, impossible choices and the constant threat of losing one another. Side characters like Pip, Sophia, Vincent and a whole host of angels and demons bring humour and warmth, turning Afterlife into a found family as much as a fortress.
By the time you reach the later books, the saga has become an epic about sacrifice, free will and what it really costs to love someone who carries the fate of Heaven and Hell on his shoulders. Happy Ever Afterlife does not mean things are neat or easy, but it does mean that every hard won moment between Keira and Draven has led somewhere worth fighting for.
If you want to understand how all of Hudson's other series connect, this is where you start. Almost every king, queen, siren, enforcer and HellBeast can trace their story back to something that happened inside the walls of Afterlife.
