Rumors about a wealthy bachelor, Charles Bingley, moving into Netherfield Park creates a buzz within the Bennet household, a family with five unmarried daughters. The eldest, Jane, wins Bingley's affections at a local ball, while his friend, Mr. Darcy, comes across as arrogant, particularly towards Elizabeth, the second eldest. Over time, however, Darcy finds himself captivated by Elizabeth's wit and charm. A series of social events, misunderstandings, and a rejected marriage proposal from a foolish clergyman, Mr. Collins, who is set to inherit the Bennet's estate, further complicate the relationships between the characters.

As the seasons change, the Bingleys and Darcy leave for London. Jane is heartbroken, Elizabeth's best friend Charlotte marries Mr. Collins, and Elizabeth learns of Darcy's role in discouraging Bingley's affections towards Jane from Wickham, a charming soldier who claims Darcy deprived him of his inheritance. The story revolves around Alex Claremont-Diaz, a 21-year-old college student and the son of America's first female president. Alex, driven by his ambition for a political career, is living in the White House with his family. The narrative begins with Alex and his sister June about to attend a British royal wedding. Alex harbors a deep-seated dislike for Prince Henry, the younger brother of the groom, due to a past unpleasant encounter. During the wedding, Alex's confrontational antics with Henry, fueled by alcohol, leads to a scandalous incident that forces him into a public display of friendship with Henry to maintain US-UK relations.

As Alex and Henry spend more time together, Alex begins to see a different side of Henry, particularly when Henry shows compassion towards a young cancer patient. An incident involving a loud noise and a forced retreat into a supply closet leads to an emotional confession from Henry about his past and a subsequent exchange of contact details between the two. Later, at their annual New Year's Eve party, a midnight kiss from Henry confuses Alex, who has had relationships with men but never identified as bisexual. At the insistence of her mother, Hazel Grace Lancaster, a seventeen-year-old with cancer, frequents a support group where she meets a boy, Augustus Waters, who is there for their mutual friend Isaac. Hazel, who has thyroid cancer that has spread to her lungs, and Augustus, who had osteosarcoma but is now cancer-free after losing his leg, share a bond over their experiences. They exchange favorite books and Hazel introduces Augustus to "An Imperial Affliction," a novel about a girl with cancer that she finds relatable. The book abruptly ends leaving its characters' fates unknown, intriguing Hazel. Soon after, Augustus manages to get in touch with the book's reclusive author, Peter Van Houten, and they start corresponding via email. Van Houten alludes he could only answer Hazel's inquiries about the book's ending in person.

Subsequently, during a Dutch-themed picnic, Augustus surprises Hazel with news that a cancer charity is fulfilling his wish of taking them both to Amsterdam to meet Van Houten. Despite her initial excitement, Hazel is hesitant about her growing feelings for Augustus, likening herself to a grenade that could hurt him when she dies. But after a health scare lands her in the ICU, she learns that Augustus never left her side and is even more determined to go to Amsterdam. Her parents and doctors are initially against her traveling due to her health, but they finally agree after persuasion from her familiar physician, Dr. Maria. However, their meeting with Van Houten is disappointing as they find him to be a bitter drunk. Despite the setback, they visit Anne Frank's house, share a romantic moment, and make love for the first time. The next day, Augustus reveals that his cancer has returned and spread.

Heading back home, Hazel witnesses Augustus's health deteriorating rapidly, and she shifts from calling him Augustus to Gus, as his parents do. Gus arranges a prefuneral for himself where Hazel and Isaac give heartfelt eulogies, expressing their love for him. Gus passes away eight days later, and to Hazel's surprise, Van Houten attends the funeral. She learns that Gus and Van Houten had kept in touch, and that Gus had been working on a sequel to "An Imperial Affliction" for her. Van Houten, under the influence of alcohol, confesses that the story was his way of dealing with his daughter Anna's death from cancer. Hazel encourages him to get sober and write another book. Later, she discovers that Gus had wanted Van Houten to use the pages he'd written to create a eulogy for her. Reading Gus's words, she agrees with his sentiment that while pain is inevitable, we can choose whom we allow to hurt us, and he was happy with his choice. The story ends with Hazel affirming that she too is content with her choice.

In the frosty winter season of 1801, a gentleman named Lockwood rents a grand estate, Thrushcross Grange, located in the secluded moorland of England. He encounters his stern landlord, Heathcliff, a prosperous gentleman residing in the nearby old manor, Wuthering Heights. Lockwood solicits his housekeeper, Nelly Dean, to relate the intriguing tale of Heathcliff and the peculiar inhabitants of the Heights. As a young servant at the Heights, Nelly recalls the owner, Mr. Earnshaw, bringing home an orphan boy, Heathcliff, who is initially detested by Earnshaw's children, Hindley and Catherine. However, Catherine soon forms a close bond with Heathcliff, leading to her father favoring Heathcliff over Hindley, who is sent away for education.

With Mr. Earnshaw's passing, Hindley inherits the Heights, returning with a wife, Frances, and an intent of retribution on Heathcliff, who finds himself reduced to the position of a common worker. Despite this, Heathcliff and Catherine maintain their relationship until a visit to the Grange leads to Catherine being bitten by a dog and staying at Grange to recover. During her stay, Mrs. Linton grooms Catherine into a proper young lady, which results in Catherine's infatuation with Edgar Linton. Following Frances's death and Hindley's descent into alcoholism and abusive behavior towards Heathcliff, Catherine chooses social status over love and becomes engaged to Edgar, prompting Heathcliff to leave. 

Heathcliff, now wealthy, returns after three years to exact revenge on those who wronged him. He cunningly lends money to the alcoholic Hindley, leading him further into debt and despondency. After Hindley's demise, Heathcliff inherits the Heights and also targets the Grange by marrying Isabella Linton. Following Catherine's death after childbirth, Heathcliff's obsession with her grows, while Isabella escapes to London with their son, Linton. Years later, Heathcliff forces Catherine's daughter, Cathy, to marry Linton. Heathcliff's devious plan comes to fruition as he gains control of both the Heights and the Grange after the death of Edgar and Linton. The tale ends with Cathy falling in love with Hareton, Heathcliff's obsession with Catherine's memory leading to his death, and Cathy and Hareton inheriting both estates and planning to marry.
